Alternative Cremation Options
One of the most recent innovations in cremation is alkaline hydrolysis, also known as resomation. First developed in the United States in the late 1990s, this method is a water-based process that uses a combination of alkaline chemicals, heat, and sometimes pressure or agitation to accelerate the natural breakdown of the body.
Unlike traditional cremation, resomation requires less energy and produces no carbon emissions or atmospheric release of matter, making it a more environmentally friendly option. However, because specialized equipment is costly and legislation permitting its use has not been adopted everywhere, availability of this service remains limited at this time.
