Wilma Sue Allison

March 17, 1942 — April 18, 2024

Wilma Sue Burkett Allison, 82, of Canyon went to be with the Lord Thursday, April 18 2024. Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Brooks Chapel with Will Hoffman officiating. Private burial will be prior at Dreamland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Monday, April 22, 2024 at Brooks Chapel.

Wilma was born on March 17, 1942 in Hereford to John David and Vinnie Mae (Taylor) Burkett. She was a graduate of Canyon High School. She then attended West Texas State University where she received her Bachelor of Education. She married Benny Allison on July 3, 1964, and they were married for 55 years before he preceded her in death on August 30, 2019.

Wilma and Benny moved to Boys Ranch in 1969 where Benny taught and coached. Wilma worked alongside Benny, teaching second and third grade at Boys Ranch for 26 years. She was passionate about teaching and was extremely dedicated to the boys and staff at the ranch. Wilma continued commuting to teach for several years once they moved to Canyon.

Wilma was a huge animal lover, caring tenderly for any animal in need. She loved her family dearly, which came second only to her love for the Lord. She could be found studying her Bible daily. Her friends and family cherished her soft heart and kind words.

Wilma is also preceded in death by her parents and her very best friend, Pat Waldrip.

Survivors include her daughters, Angela Karhu and husband, Brian, and Andrea Hoffman and husband, Will; her 'son', Darrell Miles and wife, Regina; eight grandchildren, Tyler Beckner, Zack Hukill, Ryan Karhu, Violet, Lincoln, and Clementine Hoffman, Abby James and husband, Dustin, Brittany Sullivan and husband, Scott: sister, Johnnie Raymond and husband, Johnny; brother, Jim Burkett and wife, Sheila; sister, Lynda Lindsey; her dear friend, Laverne Simmons; and her much loved canine companion, Shadow.

The family suggests memorials be to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch Alumni Association, PO Box 9435, Amarillo, Texas 79105 or because of her immense love for animals, to Amarillo SPCA, 11901 S. Coulter St., Amarillo, Texas 79119.
