William Townsend

Services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 24 at the First United Methodist Church in Canyon with Rev. Manish Shirley, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Dreamland Cemtery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 23 at Brooks Chapel. William J. "Bill" Townsend was born January 27, 1927 in Rising Star, Texas to Walt and Eula Gardner Townsend. From February 23, 1945 to July 23, 1946 he served in the US Navy. Bill married Ada Mae Prichard Breitling on July 1, 1955 in Clovis, New Mexico. He worked for the Texas Highway Department from 1953-1987. In 1977, Bill and Ada Mae purchased Playhouse Daycare in Canyon and owned it until they sold it to their daughter, Nancy, in 1992. Bill was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walt and Eula Townsend; wife, Ada Mae in 2008; daughter, Nancy Camp in 2008; granddaughter, Jarni Jean Breitling; sister, Juanita Hill; and by four brothers, W. L., Milton, Darwin, and Weldon Townsend. Survivors include his five sons, Jerry Townsend and wife, Debra, of Amarillo, Terry Townsend and wife, Anita, of Amarillo, Jack Breitling and wife, Carol, of Amarillo, Don Breitling and wife, Karen, of Amarillo, Darrell Breitling and wife, Debbie, of McKinney; three brothers, Gaylon Townsend and wife, Zelda, of Odessa, Ray Townsend and wife, Fran, of Moab, Utah, Wayne Townsend and wife, Helen, of Ruidoso, NM; son-in-law, Louis Camp, of Canyon; seventeen grandchildren; and twenty five great grandchildren. The family requests that memorials be made to the Nancy Camp Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o of Happy State Bank, 1908 4th Avenue, Canyon, TX 79015.
