Graveside services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 5 at Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Del Rio, Texas. Warren C. Baxter was born in Ballinger, Texas on October 8, 1936 to Joe and Clara Mae Baxter. He graduated from San Marcos Academy and attended Sul Ross University. Mr. Baxter entered the Armed Forces and served four years, where he received a Good Conduct Medal and Air Force Outstanding Unit Award. He was stationed out of Lockbourne AFB, Ohio. He spent some time in Greenland while serving. He married Betty J. Blair in November of 1956. They were married 35 years. Mr. Baxter was employed by West Texas Utilities out of Abilene after leaving the service. He worked in the Communications Department for several years before returning to school and earning a degree in Business from Angelo State University in 1976. He became a safety supervisor after moving to Corpus Christi and was employed by Central Power and Light. He was a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers. Before officially retiring, Mr. Baxter also did consulting work. He lived several years outside of Del Rio on Lake Amsted. He was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department and served as Chairman in his community association. He loved music and was a very gifted vocalist. He was active in his church choir and leader of the College/Career Sunday school for many years. He had a very strong work ethic and loved helping others. He loved the military and John Wayne. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Bettie Jo Adams; and a brother, Merrill Duane Baxter. Survivors include his four children, Derrell Baxter and wife, Zanne, Glenda Gurnea, and husband, Robert, Sherry Hinson, Tim Baxter and wife, Laurie; 8 grandkids; and 8 great grandkids.
