W. James Woosley, 85, of Canyon, formerly of Borger, passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. Memorial services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at St. Stephen Church of Amarillo with Grant Glaze officiating.
Born on October 2, 1940, in Wheeler to N.P. and Mattie (Greenhouse) Woosley, James graduated from Borger High School in 1958 and was drafted into the U.S. Army soon afterward. In 1967, he married Pat Wood in Borger, Texas and they were married just short of 59 years.
James was a dedicated and highly skilled racehorse trainer. His passion and commitment consistently placed him among the top ten trainers at tracks across the country. Once he left the racehorse training profession, he started the Beaver Express Agency in Borger in 1986, a freight company serving New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma. He retired in 2012 and he and Pat moved to Canyon. He was a lifetime member of Wesley Methodist Church in Borger.
James enjoyed woodworking and tinkering and had a lifelong love of Corvettes, owning several over the years. Above all, James loved his family. Though strict in their raising, he loved his children fiercely, and he shared that same devotion with his grandchildren.
Over the years, James deeply appreciated the compassionate care provided by the staff and nurses at the Veterans Administration. His family thanks everyone who cared for him, especially during his final two years as a resident, and particularly his beloved nurse, Deborah Nichols.
James is preceded in death by his parents, a son, Mark, and a sister, Patricia Warren.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Pat, of the home; four children, Liz Dean and husband, Kenny of Canyon, TX, David Wood and wife, Anji of Borger, TX, Danny Wood and wife, Julie of Granbury, TX, and Kristen Glaze and husband Russ of Canyon, TX; eleven grandchildren, Jaimi, Brittany, Shelby, Weston, Josh, Hailee, Morgan, Grant, Cameron, Kennedy, and Ridgleigh; 21 great grandchildren, with another one on the way; and his brother, Richard Woosley and wife, Debbie of Waxahachie, TX.
The family suggests memorials be made to Maverick Boys and Girls Clubs of Amarillo,1923 S. Lincoln St., Amarillo, TX 79109.
