Services will be at 2:00 pm on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Happy with Tom Stribling officiating. Burial will be in Happy Cemetery. Viewing will be in Happy"s Memorial Chapel. W. H. "Bill" McCarley was born November 14, 1923 in Waxahachie, Texas to Herschel Clarence and Maudie Briley McCarley. He moved to Happy at a young age and lived there his entire life. He attended Happy schools and served in the United States Navy. He worked for Randall County for 32 years in the Road Maintenance Department. For over 40 years, Mr. McCarley, known as "Uncle Bill" to many youth in Happy and Randall County, was an active volunteer and supporter of Randall County 4-H Clubs. He received many awards for his service and support. In 1992, he was honored with the Texas 4-H Alumni Award recognizing him for outstanding service to young people through the 4-H and Youth Development Program and in 1998 received the Governor"s Volunteer Award. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years and the Happy Days Celebration committee. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Happy. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, A.J., Buck, Dub, R.B., and Jerry, three sisters, Aleene McCarley, Betty Davis and Nellie White, and one step-brother, Leo Carlson. He is survived by two sisters, Mary White, of Brenham, and Jody Magness, of Canyon; two sisters-in-law, Opal McCarley and Johnnie McCarley, both of Happy; and many nieces and nephews.
