Von Bourland

Von Bourland, 79, of Happy, passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2021. Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, June 11, 2021 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon with Rev. Gene Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Dreamland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon.

Von was born on October 3, 1941 in Snyder to Weldon and Bennie (Stokes) Sumruld. She graduated from Snyder High School and attended WTAMU. Von married Barry Bourland on June 19, 1977. She was a very talented poet and loved writing poetry and entering poetry contests. She was a member of Hi-Plains Chapter Poetry Society of Texas and The Poetry Society of Texas. One of Von's greatest joys was her great-grandsons, who always made her laugh.

Von is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Velesta Black. Survivors include her husband, Barry Bourland; her daughter, Seleta Merrick; brother, Lorell Sumruld and wife, Dee; two grandchildren, Kira Merrick and Jordynn Wilson; two great-grandsons, Russell Crawford and James Wilson; and many nieces, nephews, and other family members.
