Vickie Gist, 64, died December 18, 2020, at her home with her family by her side in Canyon, Texas.
A service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at the University Church of Christ in Canyon with Pastor Randy Tucker officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. on Monday, December 21, 2020 at Brooks Chapel. Private burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery.
Vickie was born February 15th, 1956 in Canyon to Joe and Ruby Abbott. Joe and Ruby were greatly loved by the Canyon community.
Vickie graduated Canyon High School in 1974. She continued her education at Lubbock Christian University where she met the love of her life John David Gist. They proceeded to get married in Canyon, Texas at the University Church of Christ. Mrs. Gist worked in the health care industry for over 30 years. She was care giver for all.
She enjoyed being with family and watching her kids and grandkids in their activities. She loved the game of basketball, but when it came to her grandkids it didn't matter what the sport was. Vickie was a cheerleader for everyone she loved.
Mrs. Gist is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Ruby Abbott. Survivors include her husband, John David Gist; a daughter, Carrie Day (Eddie) of Sundown, Tx; son, Ryan Gist (Kara) of Canyon, Tx; 4 grandchildren, Bryanna and Dylan Day of Sundown, Tx and Kaden and Abbott Gist of Canyon, Tx; two sisters, Debbie Madewell (Jim) of Lubbock, Tx and Nickie Wood (Tuffy) of Canyon, Tx; many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Memorials may be sent to the Education Foundation of Canyon ISD, 3301 N. 23rd St., Canyon, TX 79015.
