Verdie Yarbrough

Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at Brooks Chapel with Terry Callis officiating. Graveside services will be at 4:00 P.M. on Tuesday at Moorewood Cemetery in Moorewood, Oklahoma. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Monday, June 10, 2013 at Brooks Chapel. Verdie LaRaine Yarbrough was born in the Midget Flats area near Leedey, OK on August 31, 1912 to Brackston and Bertha Yarbrough and died on June 8, 2013 at the age of 100 and nine months. He graduated from Liberty Center High School in 1931. He married Velma Boyer of Moorewood, OK on August 14, 1937 and together they raised six children, three boys and three girls, while farming and ranching in the Texas Panhandle. They enjoyed traveling over the years, and Verdie enjoyed singing. He retired in 1978 and he and Velma moved to Hammon, OK. Velma preceded him in death on October 6, 1978. He remarried on February 20, 1980 to Georgia Kays. She preceded him in death on June 28, 2011. Verdie moved to Umbarger in October of 2012 to live with his daughter. He is also preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and two sisters. Survivors include his children, Ruby House, of Longview, TX, Wynona Blair, of Umbarger, David Yarbrough and wife, Mary, of Canyon, Darrell Yarbrough and wife, Roxanne, of Amarillo, Calvin Yarbrough and wife, Kathy, of Fredericksburg, TX, and Kim Swacina and husband, Dwane, of Lubbock; two sisters, Aleene Scott, of San Antonio, and Launa Sharp, of Amarillo; one brother, Vernon Yarbrough and wife, Clara, of Amarillo; fifteen grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; ten great, great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be to Hospice Care of the Southwest, 6600 Killgore Dr., Suite 110, Amarillo, TX 79106.
