Twyla Joye Jones was born September 1, 1933 to Milton and Opal (Hibbitts) Helfley. She died November 24, 2016, at the age of 83, but to those who knew and loved her she will forever be 29. Twyla's early life was spent in Crosbyton. She graduated at fifteen and was Valedictorian of her class. At sixteen she attended a year at Wayland. On December 16, 1951 she married the love of her life, Billy Wayne Jones. The young couple moved to Biggs Air Force Base in El Paso where Twyla became a proud Air Force wife and the mother of Bobby Wayne. Soon they moved to the family farm in the Big Four Community, north of Crosbyton. Two daughters, Suzanne and Sherry Lynn, were born. During this time Twyla was a homemaker, wife and mother. She helped with assorted farm chores as needed, and learned to pull cotton trailers back and forth to the gin. While the children were at home, she helped with Boy Scouts, Band Boosters, Girl Scouts, many school activities, church activities, Home Economics activities, encouraged art and piano lessons, and sewed many stylish clothes for her daughters. In 1972, the family moved to Canyon. Twyla worked at the Buffalo Book Store. In 1977, Bill and Twyla bought the bookstore and owned it until 2007. One of her favorite activities was going with her husband, Bill, treasure hunting. These adventures took them to Arizona where they enjoyed meeting other treasure hunters. Twyla loved to sew and quilt. All the grandchildren received a quilt at their birth and high school graduation that was especially designed for them. Granny, as she was called by her family, was a proud and adamant supporter of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Twyla was preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Opal (Hibbitts) Hefley, a brother Bob Hefley, and her niece Abby Watts. Survivors are her husband of 65 years, Billy Wayne Jones. She is also survived by her children Bobby and Peggy Jones of Wray, Colorado, Suzanne and Tommy Allen of Canyon, Sherry Jones and her Fiancée Tony Crapanzano of Amarillo; her grandchildren Elizabeth McCandles, Jennifer Jones, Courtney Plotts, Katie Jones, Amiee Hart, Cassandra Foster, Matt Jones, and Brandon Allen; 11 great-grandchildren; and nephew Joe Hefley of Lubbock. The family suggests memorials be to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, PO Box 1890, Amarillo, Texas 79174 or your favorite charity.
