Theunis De Bruin

Theunis De Bruin, 60, of Canyon, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.

Theunis was born on February 12, 1966, in Zimbabwe and lived there until moving to Minnesota where he received his Associate of Agriculture from Minnesota State University. He moved to Belle Fourche, SD, then to Hartley, TX and ultimately made his home in Canyon.

Theunis drove trucks for Baldwin Distribution before starting his own trucking business and leasing his trucks back to Plains Transportation who he later worked for. He spent much of his time working on semi-trucks alongside his son, Evan. He also enjoyed cooking and watching rugby, especially the South African rugby team, and was lovingly known for his playful sense of humor and ability to tell jokes. He dearly loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and filled summers with trips to Six Flags, South Padre Island, and other memorable places.

Survivors include his son, Evan De Bruin of Canyon; daughter-in-law, Jordyn Cathey; three grandchildren, Koltyn, Keatyn, and Kynzlee De Bruin; his mother, Wilheimina Susanna Van Rooyen; brother, Daniel De Bruin and wife, Jackie of Ireland; and two sisters, Louise Griggs of Zimbabwe and Johanna De Bruin of Johannesburg, South Africa.

Private family services will be held at a later time.
