Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Canyon with Rev. Jeff Messer and Rev. Steve Olsen, pastor, officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, January 15, 2016 at Brooks Chapel. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Buddy Messer was born on April 2, 1928 in Memphis, Texas to Thomas Jefferson and Iva Mae Webster Messer. He married Rosa Leigh Sparks on January 1, 1950 in Clovis, NM. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a Lineman, Service man, and Manager with Southwestern Public Service for 40 years. Buddy was a member of the First Baptist Church where he served as deacon and past chairman. He also served as president of Canyon Lions Club, past president of Canyon Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of Texas Baptist Camp Builders. He was preceded in death by a son, Waide Messer, his parents, two sisters, Frances Alti and Helen Buck, and a brother, Rodney Messer. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Rosa Leigh Messer, of the home; three sons, Jeff Messer and wife, Donna, of Amarillo, Major USA (ret.) Doug Messer and wife, Katie, of Amarillo, and Randy Messer and wife, Becky, of Oak Grove, MO; a daughter, Janice Hughes and husband, Michael, of Amarillo; a daughter-in-law, Pam Messer, of Memphis, TN; 14 grandchildren, Jennifer Messer King, Joe Hughes, T. J. Messer, Jessica Messer King, Erin Messer Beasley, Amy Hughes Redus, Matthew Messer, Luke Messer, Levi Messer, Leigha Messer Barnes, Don Mark Hughes, Timothy Messer, Dustin Messer, and Michael Danko, along with their spouses; 21 great grandchildren; three brothers, Jerry Messer, of Cedar Hill, Don Messer, of Graham, and T. C. Messer, of Amarillo; one sister, Alene Wells, of Lubbock; and a host of nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be to the First Baptist Church Mission Fund, 1717 4th Avenue, Canyon, Texas 79015, Texas Camp Builders, 5351 Catron, Dallas, Texas 75227, or a favorite charity.
