Theresa Ann Maples Hillier

Theresa Ann Maples Hillier, 96, of Canyon, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2026. Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Brooks Chapel with Chaplain Danny Logan officiating. Burial will follow in Dreamland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Brooks Chapel.

Theresa Ann Maples Hillier was born on October 16, 1929, to Norris C. and Verna (Attaway) Maples in Nazareth, Texas. She grew up in Amarillo, Texas and graduated from Amarillo High School. She married Charles Ray Hillier and they moved to Canyon, Texas in 1950. Theresa devoted 40 years to the Canyon Post Office, serving as both a clerk and letter carrier. She was the first female postal worker in Canyon and, when she retired at age 80, the oldest working female letter carrier in the nation. Theresa loved her work and the postal patrons she served each day.

Theresa is preceded in death by her husband, Charles, her mother, her siblings, Susie, Norris (NC), Sterling, Lola Fay, Leon, Jack, and Billy, and her son-in-law, Alfred Cruz.

Survivors include her three daughters; Rena Gayle Dees (Kevin), Rayleen Cruz, and Carole Ann Pinson (Mike); two grandchildren, Kellye Rayann Roper (David) and Kyle Ruston Cruz (Erin); and six great-grandchildren, Wyatt Roper, Weston Roper and Waylynn Roper, and Declan Cruz, Connor Cruz and Hannah Cruz. She is also survived by her sister, Norma Boniface Walker and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all the wonderful people who cared for Theresa in the last eight years while she was in assisted living facilities. She was loved by many health care professionals, and they made each other’s days better by their interactions.
