Terry Thomas

Terry Thomas, 74, of Canyon, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2026. Graveside services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Dreamland Cemetery with Casey Wetsel, pastor of Palo Duro Cowboy Church, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Brooks Chapel in Canyon. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors.

Terry was born on September 16, 1951, in Lubbock to Jack and Arlys (Womble) Welch and graduated from Monterey High School in 1970. She married Randy Thomas in Lubbock in 1978, and they made their home in Lazbuddie for many years, where she was active in the community. She was deeply involved in the Lazbuddie school system and served for years as an EMT with the ambulance service, an experience that inspired her to become a registered nurse. She earned her associate’s degree in nursing from South Plains College in 2000 and worked in labor and delivery at Covenant Hospital in Lubbock. They moved to Canyon in 2005, and she continued her labor and delivery nursing career at Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo until her retirement.

During their years in Lazbuddie, Terry and Randy were faithful members of the First United Methodist Church. After moving to Canyon, they helped establish Palo Duro Cowboy Church and remained its last two original members. In addition to her devotion to her church, Terry enjoyed bowling and cherished spending time with her grandchildren.

Terry is preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Randy Thomas of Canyon; two sons, Brett Thomas and wife, Lauri and Jason Thomas and Kelsi, all of Canyon; six grandchildren, Avery Thomas, Taylor Frick and husband, Caleb, Tanner Thomas, Baylor Thomas, Reese Thomas, and Leddi Thomas; two sisters, Mona Harris and husband, Robert of Claude and Donna Gregory and husband, Chris of Livingston; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Palo Duro Cowboy Church, 12200 US-60W, Canyon, TX 79015.
