Stanley Price, 78, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2026, surrounded by the family he loved so deeply. A service celebrating Stan’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 23, 2026, at Brooks Chapel. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at Brooks Chapel.
Stan was born on July 22, 1947, in Lubbock, Texas, and was raised in Tahoka. It was there, working alongside his family on the farm, that he learned the value of hard work—something that stayed with him throughout his life and that he instilled in his children. He graduated from Tahoka High School in 1965 and went on to attend Texas A&M University as a proud member of the Corps of Cadets. While at Texas A&M, he earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Animal Science.
In 1970, Stan answered the call to serve his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, serving from 1970 to 1972. After returning home, he began a long career in the cattle industry as a feed yard manager. That work took him far beyond the plains of West Texas—to places like Chicago, Idaho, and Oklahoma—before eventually bringing him to Amarillo.
It was in Amarillo that Stan met the love of his life, Janice Towndrow. They were married in a simple ceremony on December 19, 1984, beginning 41 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and partnership.
Stan was a longtime member of the Canyon Country Club, where he enjoyed being involved and giving back through various board roles. In his retirement years, he found his greatest joy outdoors—whether he was golfing, hunting, fishing, pulling weeds, or simply sitting on the patio watching the wildlife in his backyard. He had a gift for noticing the little things and could always tell you how much rain had fallen, what new critter had wandered by, and, of course, the latest Texas A&M football score.
Above all, Stan was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Price; his stepfather, J.C. Womack; his mother, Earlene Tunnell Womack; and his brother, Cal Womack.
He is survived by his loving wife, Janice Price; his daughter, Shanda McElroy and her husband Adam; his son, Shane Price and his wife Kyleigh; and his cherished granddaughters, Jayden and Brylee McElroy, and Connor Price. He is also survived by his brother Larry Price and his wife Sue Ellen; and his sister Martha Busick and her husband Stan; along with many loving nieces and nephews.
Stan will be remembered for his steady presence and the quiet way he cared for those around him.
