Spiro Botsonis, 85, of Amarillo, passed into his heavenly home on Monday, December 8, 2025. Memorial services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 13, 2025 a Pleasant Valley Methodist Church in Amarillo with Pastor Larry Rogers officiating. Private interment will be in Dreamland Cemetery.
Spiro was born on August 30, 1940 in Manhattan, NY on the Bowery to Greek immigrants, George and Fay (Nickas) Botsonis. He grew up in Brooklyn on 49th St. and attended New York School of Printing. He relocated to Amarillo in 1958 and served in the U.S. Army until 1961, spending two years stationed in Germany before receiving an honorable discharge.
After returning to Amarillo following his service, Spiro joined the Printshop at Pioneer Natural Gas, where he worked for seven years before advancing to the gas measurement division. He held that position for four years prior to his promotion to gas control, a role in which he served for twenty-five years until his retirement. Additionally, Spiro was employed as a lifeguard at Western Riveria and was a champion bowler.
Spiro married the love of his life, Vervia Rosengrants on October 8, 1972 in St. John’s Greek Orthodox Church in Amarillo. He grew up Greek Orthodox and became a born again Christian when he started attending Pleasant Valley Methodist Church approximately twenty-five years ago. He valued his faith and family above all else. He enjoyed woodworking, particularly making crosses to share with others, and had a keen interest in car racing and stock cars.
Spiro is preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Eve, and brother-in-law, Manny Melotakis.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Vervia Botsonis; two daughters, Michelle Botsonis and Delana Botsonis-Kerley and husband, Beau all of Amarillo; two grandsons, Ben and Blake Kerley, also of Amarillo; and many nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials be to Pleasant Valley Global Methodist Church, 316 Valley Avenue, Amarillo, TX 79108.
