Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Canyon, Texas, with Father Scott Raef as celebrant. Burial will follow at Dreamland Cemetery.
Socorro was born on November 24, 1943 in Bachíniva, Chihuahua, Mexico to Santos and Jesusita (Barrandey) Moreno. She married Carlos Cerda on July 4, 1971 in Bachíniva, and they were married for almost 53 years before she passed all too soon. They moved to Canyon in 1987 where they lived for 31 years and were faithful members of St. Ann's Catholic Church. She made lifelong friends at St. Ann's and enjoyed the Social Fellowship and Friendship reunion with her Ultreya group.
Socorro worked at Dos Caballeros and was known by many for her wonderful cooking. She took great pride in her work as an exceptional custodian at CISD and then at Jarrett Hall on the WT Campus, totaling 21 years.
Socorro was an extraordinary woman. She made everything she touched better, from gardening, decorating, and cooking, to being the most wonderful mother, loving wife, and adored grandmother. She made such a positive impact on so many and was dearly loved by her family and everyone that knew her. She lit up when she saw her grandkids and was their biggest cheerleader at school events. Her strong work ethic and giving spirit made her the Matriarch and the light of the family. Her strength and determination helped her become a proud cancer survivor.
Socorro is preceded in death by her son, Ivan Cerda, grandson, Ivan Pacheco, sisters, Josefina Moreno Barrandey, Alicia Moreno Arroyo, Maria Moreno Gutierrez, and Martha Moreno, and her brothers, Andres Moreno and Jesus Antonio Moreno, all of Bachíniva, Chihuahua and Col Alvaro Obregon, Mexico.
Survivors include her loving husband, Carlos Cerda from Canyon; daughter, Miriam Pacheco and husband, Roman of Amarillo TX; her grandchildren, Aryana and Carlos Pacheco of Amarillo TX; and brother, Amado Moreno of Chihuahua, Mexico.
The family suggests memorials be to BSA Harrington Cancer Center, 1751 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo, Texas 79109.
