Shirley Haines

Memorial services will be at 4:00 P.M. on Friday, August 16, 2013 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Amarillo with Dr. Clay Brown, minister, officiating. Private interment will be in Dreamland Cemetery Shirley Haines was born in Oklahoma City on July 21, 1935 to Manford and Lavonne Snoddy. She attended Oklahoma City schools graduating from Classen High School in 1953. She attended the University of Oklahoma, obtaining two degrees, a bachelor's in education and a masters in library science. While a student at OU she met Harry Haines and they were married on August 4, 1955. As a professional librarian she served schools and colleges in Oklahoma, Illinois, and the Texas Panhandle. Her last assignment was at Bushland ISD before her retirement. Shirley was active in the Presbyterian Church serving as deacon, elder and Sunday School teacher. She holds memberships in the Panhandle Plains Historical Museum Auxiliary, WT Women, and the Texas Library Association. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Harry of the home, two sons, Howard of Amarillo, and Harvey (& wife Cindy) of Washington, D.C., a daughter, Holly of Powell, Wyoming, and three granddaughters, Heather, Melanie, and Sally Haines. The family has suggested gifts to the Presbyterian Mission Agency, 100 Witherspoon St., Louisville, KY 40202-1396 or Presbyterian Home for Children, 3400 S. Bowie, Amarillo, TX 79109.
