Shelby 'Red' Gene Higginbotham

December 2, 1939 — February 7, 2026

Amarillo

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shelby “Red” Gene Higginbotham, who departed this life to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 7, 2026. A family gathering to celebrate Red’s life will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon with Rev. Corky Holland, Minister to Senior Adults and Pastoral Care, First Baptist Church of Amarillo, officiating.

Red was born on December 2, 1939 in Lincoln, Washington County, Arkansas. His faith was a testament to love, family, and perseverance. He was dedicated and hard-working as a truck driver for over 50 years. He was a member of the Canyon Country Club where he loved to play golf with his family and friends and was proud that he made at least one ‘hole-in-one’ in his lifetime. He also loved to travel with his family.

Red dedicated his life to creating a loving and supportive home for his family and believed in the power of family. He is survived by his children, Shelly Groves and husband, Glenn, Billy Gene Higginbotham and wife, Julie, and Phillip Higginbotham; and a brother, Raymond Higginbotham.

Red is preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Jean Higginbotham, seven brothers, and five sisters.

Red’s kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for his family will never be forgotten.
