Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at the First Baptist Church of Canyon with Rev. Jim W. Brown, son of Ruth, officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. on Monday, January 27, 2014 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Ruth was born in Oklahoma on February 7, 1923 to Walter T. and Dora Rose Scruggs, but spent her life in Texas and moved to the Canyon area in 1942. She was a homemaker and farmer's wife. She loved children and faithfully served her Lord and church by serving in the nursery of First Baptist Church of Canyon for over 40 years. She had the gift of hospitality and encouragement, and was a wonderful cook well known for her homemade rolls and coconut pie. She strived for a personal relationship with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and touched the lives of many. She was preceded in death by her husband Noble W. Brown in 2002 and a son, Jerry Don Brown, in 1942. She is survived by three sons, Kenneth H. Brown and wife Carol of Friendswood, TX; Jim W. Brown and wife Diana of Lubbock, TX; and Gene Ray Brown and wife Sheryl of Canyon, TX. She had 8 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Bobby Scruggs and wife Betty of Amarillo, TX; Sister Odessa Lindemann of Umbarger, TX; and Maurine Abbott and husband Benny of Canyon, TX. The family suggests memorials be to the First Baptist Church Nursery Fund, 1717 4th Avenue, Canyon, TX 79015 or to the patients of Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice, in care of Don and Sybil Harrington Cancer Foundation, 1600 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo, TX 79106.
