Ruth Akins

Services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 11 at Brooks Chapel with Rev. Rick Mitchell, Rev. Kevin Akins, and Rev. Damon Akins, officiating. Private interment is at Wayside Cemetery. Ruth Akins was born on April 10, 1906 in Wilderado, Oklahoma to Thomas and Elizabeth Henderson Knox. She married Olen Luther Akins at Wayside on December 23, 1926. He preceded her in death on October 5, 1973. She was an Avon sales rep for over twenty years in Happy and was fondly known as "Mom Akins" to the youth in the area. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Wilma Beth, three brothers, and four sisters. Survivors include two sons, Olen Charles Akins and wife, Della, of Tyler, TX, Tom Edwin Akins and wife, Lori, of Happy; two sisters, Mary Jo Salter, of Amarillo, Faye Wagner, of Amarillo; and numerous Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, and Great Great Grandchildren.
