Roy Hollenstein

Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, January 16, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Umbarger with Rev. Daniel Dreher officiating. A Vigil will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Brooks Chapel. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Roy Hollenstein was born on February 1, 1951 in Canyon to Anton and Leta Mae Sexton Hollenstein. He has been a lifelong resident of the Canyon and Umbarger area, having always lived on the homestead where he was born. He was a graduate of Canyon High School and received his Associates Degree from the welding college in Amarillo. He married Jeanne Dodson on November 13, 1993 in Canyon. Roy was a lifelong farmer and rancher in Umbarger and also worked as the irrigatioin specialist for WTAMU Grounds and Maintenance for the last fifteen years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and served as a past president of the Co-op. He was a family man and loved his family and grandchildren. He was a great mechanic and loved wood working. He also enjoyed motorcycle trips and drag racing in his younger days. Roy was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Hollenstein, of the family home; two daughters, Tina Danger and husband, Jody, of Richmond, VA and Cheryl Pankonien and husband, Alan, of Evergreen, CO; two grandchildren, Kaleigh and Kyler Danger, of Richmond, VA; one sister, Glenda Britten and husband, Donnie, of San Juan Capistrano, CA; one niece; and three nephews. The family suggests memorials be to the American Heart Association, PO Box 841125, Dallas, Texas 75284-1125 or the National Kidney Foundation of West Texas, PO Box 51231, Amarillo, Texas 79159.
