Roxie Jean Johnson, 81, of Happy, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2026. Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Happy Church of Christ with Rick Bloodworth and Joshua Duncan officiating.
Roxie was born July 17, 1945, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, to Edward and Annie (Pickens) Taylor. After moving to Happy, Texas, she earned her GED and studied nursing training at Wayland Baptist University. She married Charles Stanley Johnson, and they farmed and raised their family in the Happy area. They were happily married for 62 years before he preceded her in death on November 11, 2025.
A devoted homemaker, Roxie stayed busy raising six sons. She was an exceptional cook, one of her specialties being her chili. She and Charles also loved dancing and once won a competition while B.B. King performed live. Roxie enthusiastically supported her sons’ football games and other activities and later followed her grandchildren in all their pursuits. After her sons graduated from high school, her love of children led her to work for Happy schools for many years, caring for many of the community’s children. She was a longtime, faithful member of Happy Church of Christ.
Roxie is also preceded in death by a son, Jamie Scott Johnson and a sister-in-law, Hilda Taylor.
Survivors include her five sons, Charles Johnson, Jr. and wife, Amy of Canyon, Kenneth Dale Johnson of Tulia, Edward Johnson of Corpus Christi, Patrick Johnson and fiancé, Fran Adel Armstrong of Altus, OK, and Gaylen Johnson and wife, Melinda of Canyon; eight grandchildren, Melanie, Jennifer, Clint, Derek, Jerami, Abigail, Beau, and Brennan; nine great grandchildren; and five brothers, Edward Taylor, Jr. and wife, Paulia of Waddell, AZ, Clarence Taylor and wife, Vira of Maximilian, West Germany, Ruben Taylor of Tyler, TX, Leroy Taylor and wife, Debbrea of Ramstein, West Germany, and Ricky Taylor of Bellevue, WA.
