Rosa Cowart

Graveside services will be held at Dreamland Cemetery, Saturday, July 23 at 4:30 P.M., with The Rev. Dr. Don McDonald officiating. The burial will be at Dreamland Cemetery. Rosa was born in Dimmitt, Castro County Texas, to Harvey James Baughn and Hester Bell Cash. The family moved to Canyon where he was City Clerk. Rosa attended Canyon public schools; however, due to illness she graduated from Sherman High School. She received her BS in Chemistry and MS in Speech Therapy from West Texas State. She and her family were active in the First Presbyterian Church of Canyon, Rosa serving in many local church positions and held various state and national Presbyterian Women"s offices. In 1940 Rosa married O.P."Pete" Cowart of Silverton, Texas. They lived in Hereford and Canyon, except for the war years, until 1969 when they moved to Riverside, California where Rosa was employed as a speech therapist, the position from which she eventually retired. In 1996 she moved to Grace Presbyterian Village in Dallas, Texas, where she resided until 2002, then moving to Fredericksburg, Texas to be near her oldest daughter. In June 2005 she moved to Provo, Utah, home of her second daughter. Rosa and Pete were instrumental in the creation and production of "TEXAS" in Palo Duro Canyon where the family lived and Pete was a Park Ranger for many years. She co-wrote "Thundering Sound of the West," the fund-raising forerunner of "TEXAS." The entire family were involved in the first season of "TEXAS" filling acting roles, production needs, hospitality and technical elements. Rosa is preceded in death by her husband, parents and siblings, two grandsons, Flint Forest Hamman, and Andrew Lyon Crisler, and one granddaughter, Cacey Hamman. Survivors include 2 daughters Lilian (Mrs. W.F. Hamman), of Fredericksburg, TX, Lou Ann (Mrs. Jesse Crisler), of Provo, UT; one son Jim Cash Cowart and wife Janet (Bergman) Cowart, of Laguna Niguel, CA; 6 grandsons Buckley and Peter Hamman, Loren (Tomoko Uemori), Lance (YiShan Chen), and Lyman Crisler, Jefferson Cowart; 5 granddaughters Verna and Hester Hamman, Lilian (Mrs. Matt Maughan), Linsey (Mrs. Kenny Jackman), and Lane Crisler. The family suggests memorials be made to your local hospice.
