Ron Dunbar

March 18, 1967 — July 30, 2025

Ronald (Ron) Keith Dunbar passed away on July 30th, 2025 after a short but bravely fought battle with cancer. The world is less bright without him here, but his family and friends will carry him in their hearts forever. Ron was born on March 18th, 1967 in St. Paul, Nebraska to Loren and Irene Dunbar. He grew up in Hastings, Nebraska whereas stories say, he and his brothers Jerry and Dale raised hell. He later met and married his soulmate JoAnn on October 25th, 1991 and together they raised their 5 children, Melissa, Samantha, Haley, Zachary, and Riley. Ron's wife and daughters can never thank him enough for the strength and resilience he instilled in them, that will carry them through the loss of an extraordinary husband and dad. Ron took his role as provider seriously and was dedicated, even in his last moments, to making sure his family was always taken care of. He worked in the ethanol business for 20 years, and through his strong work ethic, worked his way up to Vice President of manufacturing of White Energy. Most recently, he worked at Standard Dairy Consultants in Hereford. Ron could be found in the kitchen or at the grill with his classic rock in the background, reading countless books (a love he passed on to his daughters), and cheering on his Nebraska Cornhuskers and Minnesota Vikings. His love for his family was evident in every moment he spent with them, whether it was sharing laughter, offering guidance, or simply enjoying each other's company, often over a family game of Aggravation. Ron is preceded in death by his son Zachary Dunbar and daughter Samantha Garcia; brother Dale Dunbar; parents Loren and Irene Dunbar; and uncles Evan and Alan Czirr. He is survived by his wife JoAnn Dunbar, daughters Melissa Anderson and husband Mark, Haley Plogger and husband Josh, and Riley Steffen and husband Taylor; grandchildren Chaleb, James, Liam, and Oakley; brother Jerry Dunbar; mother-in-law Pat Wich; and his puppies Gunner, Gus, Bailey, and Tyson. Ron's spirit will live on in the hearts of all that knew him. "If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever." A celebration of Ron's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to share stories, laughter and tears, and the love that Ron shared with all who knew him.
