Roland was born on September 18, 1950 in Canyon to Gilford and Gertrude (Langston) Flowers. He graduated from Tulia High School in 1969 and attended West Texas State University. He married Sherma Cox at the First Baptist Church of Happy on January 7, 1972.
After various moves and jobs, Roland moved his family to Happy in 1977. He attended Amarillo College and received his EMT Advanced (Paramedic) and later his Paramedic Certificate. He was also a certified instructor for the EMT program at Amarillo College. He served Happy, Canyon, and Amarillo as a paramedic. He then returned to farming and trucking, later starting his own trucking company, Flowers Livestock Transportation. He was a member of the Happy Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the First Baptist Church of Happy where he served as an ordained deacon.
Roland was known by all as a hard-working man with integrity, and his fun loving and caring spirit endeared him to people. He was always active and involved and if anyone needed help, he was there without fail. Having received his private pilot license, he enjoyed flying and was a member of Blue Sky Airfield. He also enjoyed hunting, riding motorcycles, welding, and especially enjoyed visiting. His family will lovingly remember him as tough and a little (or a lot) ornery.
Roland was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and a brother, Roger Flowers.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Sherma Flowers; three sons, Kirk Flowers and wife, Penny and their boys, Ryder and Tackett, Gabe Flowers and wife, Christina and their boys, Landon and Kannon, and Roy Flowers and wife, Jennifer and their children, Bennett and Nora; a brother, Doug Flowers and wife, Marketta; sister-in-law, Lorrie Flowers; an uncle, several aunts, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
