Following graduation, he spent a short stint at Sul Ross University and a lifetime of work and service in agriculture, oil field, and cattle transportation. Most importantly to him was doing the work of his Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ. It was evident in all the jobs he had throughout his life, he never "hired on" to further his wealth or reputation. He hired on to be of HELP to a company or person who was actually needing help and assistance or the knowledge of the salvation of Jesus.
Rodney's most memorable moments were spent coaching his son's Little League Baseball teams and actively participating in "Kairos" prison ministry and "Walk to Emmaus" meetings and ministry. He witnessed to many on Brazilian mission trips, church activities and trips.
Rodney never felt uncomfortable or misplaced meeting strangers (or friends) and sharing the "Word of God." His unique gift of quickly growing strangers into meaningful, devoted friends will be unmatched.
Rod was a protective brother to his four sisters and was fanatically protective and loving to his special needs sister, Dear Sweet Mellody. Mell was an enormous part of Rod's life, and she was the adhesive that glued the Harris Family Package together.
Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Peggy Guthrie and Mellody Harris, his granddaughter, Shelby Harris, niece Jennifer Runyon, and nephew, Chad Noel.
