Memorial services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Canyon with Rev. Steve Olsen, pastor, officiating. Private Interment, Memory Gardens Cemetery Robert was born October 22, 1928 in Frederick, Oklahoma to Earl and Cleo Splawn. He married Mary Lee Patrick November 24, 1950. He received his education in the Frederick schools, graduating in 1946. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in August 1950. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Oklahoma Baptist University, a Masters? of Education degree from Midwestern University and a Doctorate of Education from the University of Oklahoma. While in Oklahoma, he was Principal at Grandfield High School and Superintendent of Schools at Verden and Snyder, Oklahoma. He came to West Texas University (now WTA&MU) in 1966 and retired from there in 1989. He was awarded the rank of Professor Emeritus in 1994. Since retiring he devoted his time to volunteer work with Canyon Cares, Canyon Housing Authority, Amarillo Literacy Program, Palo Duro Canyon State Park and a prison ministry in Tulia. Robert loved the Lord and served Him in many capacities. He was a loving and caring husband, dad, granddad, and great-granddad. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Steve Woodall. Survivors include his wife of 62 years; a daughter, Cindy Woodall; a son, Bob Splawn; a granddaughter, Lee Ann Lefevre and husband, Don; a great grandson, Braden Lefevre; a sister, Kathryn Tate and husband, Bill, of Carnegie, OK; and his dog, Cricket.
