Robert Lee-Winston Mayfield, 60, of Canyon, formerly of Mesquite, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2024. Memorial services will be at 3:00 P.M. on Monday, July 1, 2024 at First Presbyterian Church of Amarillo with Murray Gossett, Associate Pastor, officiating.
Robert was born on June 10, 1964 in Dallas to William and Peggy (Richardson) Mayfield. He was a 1983 graduate of Mesquite High School and worked at Mrs. Baird's Bakery in Mesquite. He was also a tour guide at Southfork Ranch for the show 'Dallas.' Robert then worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Mesquite, retiring just short of 35 years. He met Sarina Meshell in 1993, and they were married on May 20, 1995, recently celebrating 29 years of marriage.
Robert was a longtime faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mesquite where he served as Deacon and Elder. He never met a stranger and was loved by many for his wonderful sense of humor. Family was of the utmost importance to him, and the babies of the family (as well as the pups) were inevitably drawn to him. He was a devoted husband, father, son, and brother, and he treasured being 'PaPa' to his grandchildren.
Robert was a devout Texas Longhorn fan and an avid history buff. He also enjoyed tennis, cruises with Sarina, and delighted in video gaming. He loved playing Chess and taught Sarina to play, declaring her a formidable opponent. Robert was a licensed scuba diver and enjoyed reading anything by Tom Clancy or Clive Cussler. His family will cherish his many cards, most of considerable length, and the German Shepards they raised together as a family over the years. He and Sarina moved to Canyon in 2021.
Robert was preceded in death by his father, and a sister, Amanda Saling.
Survivors include his wife, Sarina Mayfield of the home; three daughters, Amanda Hampton of Austin, Heather Mayfield of Canyon, and Meghan Hedrick and husband, Colton of Amarillo; his honorary daughter, Abigail Alexander and husband, Adam of Canyon; three grandchildren, Knoxx and Kennedy Hedrick and Jaxon Mayfield; honorary granddaughter, Ainsley Alexander; mother, Peggy Mayfield of Forney; sister, Heather Sacco of Greenville, TX; several nieces and nephews; many cousins; and his devoted canine companion, Ryder.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to BSA Harrington Cancer Center, 1751 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo, TX 79106 or to First Presbyterian Church of Mesquite, 1028 S. Beltline Rd., Mesquite, TX 75149.
