R.K. “Red” Deckard, Jr., 89, of Canyon, formerly of Amarillo, went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, September 3, 2026. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Crossroads Country Church with Bob Miller, pastor, and Joe Watkins officiating.
Red was born on January 27, 1937, in Amarillo to Raymond Kenneth and Nell (Edwards) Deckard. Red as a young man worked on the ranch helping his grandmother in the family cattle business for many years, while completing his education at Amarillo College. He became a Master Electrician for Local Union #602 and worked as an electrical inspector for the City of Amarillo until his retirement. He was a member of Crossroads Country Church.
Red married Dorothy Dee Balch in Amarillo on July 7, 1961, and they enjoyed 53 wonderful years together before she preceded him in death on July 11, 2014.
Survivors include his daughter, Renee Ashley and husband, Jerry of Amarillo; his son, Randy Deckard and wife, Jo of Canyon; three grandchildren, Angela Koch of Lamar, CO, Megan Wingate of Canyon, and Ashley Wade of Canyon; and seven great grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to Crossroads Country Church, 14425 South FM 1541, Amarillo, Tx 79118.
