Richmond Hales

November 1, 1926 — September 2, 2019

Richmond Hales, 92, of Canyon, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2019.  Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at the University Church of Christ with David Lough and Bob Shepard officiating.  Burial will follow in Dreamland Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 P.M. on Friday, September 6, 2019 at Brooks Chapel. Richmond was born on November 1, 1926 in Randall County to Henry Buford (H.B.) and Maie Bell Pewitt Hales.  He married Mary Jo Tomlinson on August 18, 1950, and they just celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary.  He was an auctioneer for many years and was in the dairy business, serving as president of the Texas Holstein Association.  In 1962, he started the registered angus cow and calf operation known as Hales Angus Farms.  He was an Auctioneer First Cattleman and Master Cattle Breeder.  He served on the Board of Directors for the Tri State Fair for many years and served as director of Texas Angus Association and Farmers Elevator.  He was President of Local Greater West Texas Angus Association.  Richmond was a lifetime resident of Randall County and was deacon at the University Church of Christ for over twenty years. Richmond is preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, R.P. Hales, H.B. Hales, Joe Hales, Lewis Hales, and Jones Hales, four sisters, Edith Maie Hales, Elizabeth Gordon, Jane Daniels, and Martha Howard, and a granddaughter, Kandace Weatherly. Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo Hales, of Canyon; son, Rick Hales and wife, Stephanie of Canyon; daughter, Rhonda Weatherly and husband, Steve of Amarillo; son, Rodney Hales and wife, Swany of Nazareth; five grandchildren, Kristin Paxton and husband, Chris of Lubbock, Chance Hales of Ft. Worth, Reece Hales and wife, Kaeli Jo of Vega, Cade Hales of Canyon, and Katrina Lopez and husband, Isaac of San Antonio; four great grandchildren, Regan and Kamryn Hales and Jaydan and Aria Lopez; and one sister, Ruby Herndon of Surprise, AZ. The family suggests memorials be to High Plains Children's Home, PO Box 7448, Amarillo, Texas 79114.
