Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at Brooks Chapel with Rev. Gene Jones, associate pastor, First Baptist Church, officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 5:30 P.M. on Monday, June 12, 2017 at Brooks Chapel. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Cemetery, Plainview, TX. Richard James Roach (Rick) died Friday, June 9, 2017, in Amarillo, Texas. He lived in Lubbock, Texas, and also cared for his mother at her residence in Canyon, Texas. He died suddenly Friday morning after walking his dog and helping a neighbor clear tree debris following a thunderstorm. Rick was born in Lubbock, Texas, on August 8, 1949, to parents Raymond LaVern Roach and Evelyn Ogden Roach. A lifelong Texan, Rick graduated from Pampa High School in 1967. He began his college career and later joined the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Korea and served two years there with the Army. An avid musician, he sang on a South Korean television program with singer Patty Kim. After his stint in the military, Rick returned to Texas and earned his Bachelor's degree in accounting at Texas Tech University. He then attended the university's law school and earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree. He practiced private law in Breckenridge and Canadian, Texas. He then became the county attorney for Roberts County. Later he was elected to District Attorney for the 31st District of Texas. Rick loved gardening, nurturing his family, and walking his dog. Rick was an avid practical joker and loved telling stories. He was a huge fan of the Texas Tech Red Raiders. His dedicated care for his mother and love for his family will always be remembered. He was preceded in death by fathers LaVern Roach and Robert Weldon "Birdog" Trice and a brother Terry Nelson Trice. He was also proceeded in death by grandparents Inez and Stanley Roach and Vera and Herbert Castleberry and niece Constance Pearl Hutcherson. Rick is survived by his mother, Evelyn Ogden Trice of Canyon, Texas, his twin sons Kris and Kyler Roach of Lubbock, Texas, and another son James Roach Bailey and his wife Paula of Salt Lake City, Utah. His young granddaughter Brooke Bailey always brought a smile to his face. He's also survived by his sister Ronnie Roach Birdsong and her husband Jon of Portales, New Mexico. His brother Ted Trice and wife Buffi live in Canyon, Texas. He's also survived by extended family, including nieces Ronda Stockmyer and Tayte Trice and nephews Jon Birdsong, Michael Hutcherson, Jason Trice, and Tyson Trice. He cherished his canine companion Amber and countless other pets during his life.
