Richard Fry, 64, of Canyon, formerly of Happy, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, March 31, 2025 at Happy Church of Christ with Rick Bloodworth and Howard Morris officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 30, 2025 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon.
Richard was born on May 20, 1960 in Garnett, Kansas to James and Bonnie (Francis) Fry. He graduated from Iola High School in Iola, KS and attended Amarillo College and WTAMU where he taught real estate classes at both. He married the absolute love of his life, Terri Myers, in Happy on November 2, 1990 and she remained his 'Beautiful Bride' for 34 years.
Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served as a parachute rigger before becoming a light weapons leader in Special Forces. He was a land agent for wind energy companies and a farm & ranch real estate broker in Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico. He negotiated land deals for the largest windfarms in the state. On the side, Richard also raised horses and cattle which was actually the job he loved most. He ensured that each of his children and grandchildren learned to ride a horse safely and properly, while also providing them with beef from the cattle he raised.
Richard was a long-time member of the American Quarter Horse Association and was very involved with the Tri State Fair where he helped with the Horse Club and was a member of the Livestock Committee. He and Terri were avid supporters of FFA and sponsored the "I Dare You" award each year for the Swisher County
4-H.
Richard was first and foremost a Christian. He was also a genuine cowboy and always a true gentleman. Slightly ahead of his love for horses and cattle, was his immense love for his family. He was a loving husband, proud father, and Gepa to his grandchildren whom he adored. He was also a friend to everyone, and to his family, he was invincible. He was exceptionally smart and talented in so many ways and was always fully committed, giving his absolute all to anything he did.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marguarite Evans.
