Richard Friemel

Rosary will be said at 7:00 P.M. Monday, October 1, 2012 at Brooks Chapel with Bill Doresy and Raymond Artho officiating. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at St. Mary"s Catholic Church in Umbarger, Texas, with the Rev. Daniel Dreher as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary"s Catholic Cemetery. Richard was born October 29, 1925, in Randall County to EJ and Emilie Kriscke Friemel. He attended Umbarger Public School. He married Lillian Monica Grabber on August 24, 1949, in Umbarger and celebrated 60 years of marriage. Richard was a life long farmer in the Umbarger area and his love of gardening was evident as you passed by his place. His greatest joy was his 25 grandchildren and his 29 great-grandchildren. Richard was a member of St. Mary"s Catholic Church and Knight"s of Columbus, and formerly served on many boards including Umbarger School Board, St. Mary"s Parish Council, High Plains Underground Water Conservation and the Umbarger Co-op. He served as a rifleman in the US Army during WWII and was stationed in Europe. The family wants to give special thanks to all of Richard"s caregivers, especially Vera Chumley and Debbie Cox. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian, in 2010, two sons, Kevin and Gerard, a daughter, Rene, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Survivors include one son, Robert Friemel and wife, Karen, of Umbarger; three daughters, Jeanette Bezner and husband, Frank, of Bushland, Evelyn Detten and husband, Paul, of Panhandle, and Valerie Kuhnert and husband, Charles, of Umbarger; 25 grandchidlren and 29 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Amarillo Right to Life, PO Box 31502, Amarillo, TX 79120, or the Catholic Student Center, 2610 Fourth Ave., Canyon, TX 79015.
