Rex Tomlinson

March 1, 1940 — October 5, 2022

Rex Tomlinson, 82, of Canyon, passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2022. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Rex was born on March 1, 1940 in Sunset, Texas to Braze and Virginia (Cantrell) Tomlinson and attended school in Lyford, Texas. Rex married Jeanne Marshall in Merkel, Texas in 1957 and they lived in Lubbock until 2010 when they moved to Canyon. She preceded him in death on October 8, 2013.

Rex was a hard worker and always enjoyed his work, first as a cotton ginner, then as a supervisor, and then became manager, retiring at Acuff McClung Co-op Gin.

Rex enjoyed camping and was an excellent water skier. He loved John Deere tractors and enjoyed military history, especially military machinery. He had a passion for anything 'old'...old movies, old cars, old magazines and loved sharing that with his family. You could always find Rex with a mason jar full of iced tea, and he took great pleasure in a bowl of Blue Bell coffee ice cream. Above all else, his grandchildren, who lovingly called him 'Papa', were his greatest joy. He was a member of Trinity Church in Lubbock.

Rex was also preceded in death by three brothers, Billy, Mickey, and Sammy Jack Tomlinson.

Survivors include three children, Regina Muller and husband, Paul of San Antonio, Lee Tomlinson and wife, Lisa Thomas of Honolulu, HI, and Monique Bryan and husband, Jim of Canyon; four grandchildren, Niki Brown and husband, Andrew of Dallas, Dusty Bryan of Canyon, Allie Bryan of Houston, and Eimanie Thomas of Austin; one great granddaughter, Nellie Jeanne Brown of Dallas; and three brothers who affectionately called him 'Bacy', James 'Bud' Tomlinson, Benny Tomlinson and wife, Pat, and Monty Tomlinson and wife, Jane.

The family requests memorials be made to Amarillo Area Parkinson's Association, PO Box 19721, Amarillo, TX 79114 or to the National Kidney Foundation of West Texas, PO Box 51231, Amarillo, TX 79159.
