Reba Myers Raef, 90, of Umbarger, died Monday, July 14, 2003 in Amarillo. Services will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 16, 2003 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Umbarger with Rev. Scott Raef and other priests of the Diocese officiating. Vigil will be at 7:00 PM Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at Brooks Chapel with Rev. Ken Keller officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Umbarger. Mrs. Raef was born on January 28, 1913 in Amarillo to George and Sylvia Reynolds Myers. She was a graduate of Amarillo High School and married Lewie L. Raef at Amarillo in 1933. They lived in St. Francis and Amarillo before moving to Umbarger in 1946. She owned and operated a local grocery store in Umbarger and was the Post Mistress in Umbarger also. She was the primary activist to get the community water system in place in Umbarger and was a columnist for the Canyon News and West Texas Register. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where she was the organist, St. Mary's Altar Society and Christian Mothers, and Umbarger Senior Citizens. She was also an active participant in the annual German Sausage Festival. She was preceded in death by one son, Thomas D. Raef, in 2000, and a great granddaughter, Alyssia Earl, in 1979. Survivors include her husband, Lewie L. Raef, of Amarillo; six daughters, Barbara Hartman, and husband, Bernard, of Canyon, Helen Raef Lannier, of San Diego, CA, Sylvia Raef Artho, of Canyon, Suzy Hicks, and husband, Marion, of Umbarger, Margaret Riggs, of Amarillo, and Mary Lyne, and husband, John, of Corsicana, TX; five sons, Louis Raef and Guy Raef, both of of Amarillo, Michael Raef, of Umbarger, Andy Raef, and wife, Edith, of Crestview, FL, and Dr. Kevin Raef, and wife, Kathy, of Canyon; one brother, Richard Myers, and wife, Cherie, of Newhall, CA; forty grandchildren, forty great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild.
