R. David "Bones" Hernandez

We are sad to announce the passing of R. David "Bones" Hernandez of Schertz, Texas on May 4, 2023 at the age of 69. David passed away surrounded by his loved ones after a lengthy illness.

Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Friday, May 26, 2023 at St. Ann's Catholic Church with Rev. Scott Raef as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Dreamland Cemetery. Vigil and Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 25 at Brooks Chapel.

David was born on November 5, 1953 in Canyon to Aniceto and Consuelo Hernandez. He was raised in Canyon and graduated from Canyon High School in 1973. He attended West Texas State University where he was a member of the ATO before moving to San Antonio where he met his wife of thirty years, Sandra Denise De La Vega. He continued his education at the University of the Incarnate Word University where he received his bachelor's and master's degrees. His life-long dream was to finish his PhD and attend law school, but due to his illness, he was unable to finish.

David loved life, his wife, and his family. He was very passionate about education and lectured his nieces and nephews about the importance of getting an education. He was a devoted Catholic and was also a 4th Degree Knight and a Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus. David loved skiing and playing golf, and he loved his job as a Financial Advisor. He would do anything to help his family when in need and will be dearly missed by everyone.

David is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Aniceto Hernandez, Jr. and Pete Hernandez, and one sister, Nancy Aragon.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Hernandez; sister, Dora Oberbrockling, brother, Richard Hernandez and wife, Sue, and baby sister, Isabel Barraza; sister-in-law, Helen Hernandez; and numerous nieces and nephews.
