Phillip Langen

Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, August 28, 2003 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. David Lowrie, pastor, and Rev. Jim Hancock, officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery. Mr. Langen was born on January 19, 1934 in Phillips, Texas to Vincent and Allene Griggsby Langen. He married Jerrie Forbes on October 23, 1953 at Borger and they have been residents of Canyon since 1964. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Texas Tech Universtiy and his Master of Business Administration Degree from WTSU. He was Mayor of Canyon from 1978 to 1986 and was employed for thirty-eight years at WTAMU where he was the Book Store manager and served as Director of Auxiliary Services. When he retired, he sold real estate. He was a Gideon, a member of First Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon and on the Baptist Community Services Board, and also served on the Baptist St. AnthonyA???s Board of Directors. He was a Veteran of the U. S. Army Infantry and was named A???Citizen of the YearA??? in 1977. He was preceded in death by his parents. He liked to fish with friends and family. Survivors include his wife, Jerrie Langen, of the home; two sons, Jay Langen, of Canyon, and Randy Langen, of Iowa Park; two brothers, Charles Langen, of Dalhart, and Vincent Langen, of Albuquerque, NM; and seven grandchildren, Dane Langen, Ashleigh Langen, Abbie Langen, Alee Langen, Reid Langen, Jace Langen, and Halee Langen. The family suggests memorials be to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 1717 4th Avenue, Canyon, Texas 79015.
