Pete Garza

On Tuesday, June 25, 2024, Canyon lost one of its well-known and much-loved residents. Pete Garza, (lovingly known as Mr. Pete and Uncle Pete) passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at the age of 73.

Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, July 1, 2024 at St. Ann's Catholic Church with Deacon Gabe Rivas officiating. Burial will follow at Dreamland Cemetery. A Rosary will be held at 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 30, 2024 at Brooks Chapel. .

Pete was born on June 2, 1951 in Edinburg, Texas to Ladislado Garza and San Juanita (Garcia) Hernandez. He moved his family from California to Canyon in 1989 and established Imperial Paint and Body in Canyon in 1993. Later, his son, Pedro, joined him in the business and continued after his retirement. Pete's favorite project was refinishing his 1940 Chevy he had gotten when he was fourteen years old. Down the road he traded the car and was thrilled to find it again years later. He and his boys were working on the project together, naming it 'the rolling pumpkin.'

Pete was a great man and a friend to everyone he met. He was known to put his work on hold to gladly help others with anything they needed. His family was extremely important to him, coming second only to his relationship with the Lord. He will be remembered by many as a friendly, kind and generous man, giving freely of his time, and always with a smile. Those who knew him will greatly miss his wonderful story telling.

Pete is preceded in death by his parents, son, Pedro Ladislado Garza, two sisters, Ignacia De los Santos and San Juanita De la Garza, and a brother, Romaldo Hernandez.

Survivors include the mother of his children, Judy Garza; five sons, Michael Garza, Mario Luis Garza, Pedro Garza, Jr., Leon Anthony Garza, and wife, Stacy Lynn, and Timothy Diego Garza; thirteen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; and siblings, Ladislado Garza, Jr., Bernadino Garza, Orilia Leal, Helen Garza, Esther Hernandez, Diana Hernandez, and Tomás Hernandez.
