Patsy Pierce Hughes, 92, of Lubbock, passed away on Monday, October 13, 2025. Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, October 17, 2025 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon with Sawyer Reid officiating. Burial will follow in Dreamland Cemetery.
Patsy was born on September 10, 1933 in Muleshoe to Samuel Haskell and Gladys (Cruse) Pierce, the second of ten children, and was a 1952 graduate of Muleshoe High School. She then graduated from Draughon's Business College and attended Texas Tech University.
Loving adventure, Patsy traveled extensively and often included her family in her travels. Among her many trips, her most notable excursion was flying in a helicopter over the volcanoes of Hawaii. She was a travel agent, a realtor, a wonderful homemaker, and an amazing cook, known for her exceptional pies and desserts. She was also an excellent seamstress, sewing clothing for the girls at Girls Town while also sewing for her girls and their many activities through the years, her specialty being beautiful prom dresses. She loved entertaining and enjoyed nature, yardwork, gardening, and canning. Among her other hobbies, Patsy also enjoyed ballroom dancing and playing bridge with her 1923 Bridge Club. She was also a member of the West Texas Hospital Auxiliary and a member of Broadway Church of Christ in Lubbock.
Patsy was a wonderfully nurturing mother, but her greatest and most favorite skill was grandmothering, being known as 'Honey' to her grandchildren that she absolutely adored. Her family and those who knew Patsy will lovingly remember her kindness, gentleness, resilience, strength, and her fierce independence. She was a true, living example of all a godly woman should be, leading her son-in-law to express that 'She was the golden thread that stitched our family together' and her grandson to say 'She is the standard for the kind of woman I want to marry.' She will be forever loved and greatly missed.
Patsy is preceded in death by her son, Craig Hughes, seven brothers, Bill, Sam, Tony, Dick, Mickey, Neal, and Gerry Pierce, and one sister, Betty Blair.
Survivors include her daughters, Stephanie Hales and husband, Rick of Canyon and Shauna Frisbie and husband, Gary of Lubbock; daughter-in-law, Jitty Hughes of Lubbock; seven grandchildren, Hacee Hughes-Postar and husband, Michael of Lubbock, Paxton Hughes of Rockford, MI, Chance Hales of Ft. Worth, Cade Hales of Canyon, Zane Frisbie and wife, Angeli of Dallas, Sonnet Frisbie of Washington, DC, and Nash Frisbie of Austin; and her sister, Cherry Ested and husband, Johnnie of Wichita Falls.
Because of the family's immense gratitude for their exceptional and loving care of Patsy, the family suggests memorials be to Runningwater Draw Care Center, 800 W. 13th St., Olton, TX 79064 or to Lubbock Meals on Wheels, 2304 34th St., Lubbock, TX 79411.
