Patricia "Pat" A. Pruett, (88 years of age), of Canyon, TX, left her physical body with us, as her spirit instantly and joyfully joined her Savior and Lord on Sunday, November 3, 2024.
A visitation will be held for the family to receive friends from 9:00 to 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Brooks Chapel. Funeral services will be private.
Pat was born in 1935 to Roland B. and Alice McFarlin. She grew up on a farm in the Panhandle of Texas and was the younger of two children. She did what any other farm girl did at that time. She gathered eggs, milked cows, churned butter, worked on the farm driving a tractor or truck, worked in the garden and helped prepare meals, washed clothes in a gas-powered washing machine in the front yard and hung clothes to dry. For fun, she enjoyed playing hide and seek with others in the field just prior to harvest and riding on her gentle horse, Ol' Bill. In high school she sang in a chorus and was voted Miss Dogie Days Queen. She was voted as class favorite and one of the 10 prettiest girls in high school. After high school she attended Northwest Texas Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in August 1956. It was during her time in nurses training, she met her husband, Wayne E. Zello, who was a patient in the hospital. They married soon afterward and had 3 lovely daughters. Eighteen years after their marriage, Wayne passed away. After being a single mom, finishing her BSN at West Texas, and working as the school nurse for Canyon ISD, she met A. L. Pruett, with whom she would spend the rest of her life.
Pat was dearly loved by Canyon students and teachers alike. She was always available for anyone who needed an encouraging word or medical attention in some capacity. She really enjoyed school trips as the nurse because she got to know better, the students, teachers, and parents. Since her daughters attended Canyon schools, friends of theirs were considered like family. Prior to her marriage to A. L., Kathy's friends gave a wedding shower for Pat! The house was full of students who wanted to show how happy they were for her upcoming marriage.
Pat was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church in Canyon. She volunteered to help wherever help was needed. After retiring, she participated in the quilting group at the church. Pat also enjoyed many hobbies like sewing, gardening, painting, reading, and spending time with friends and family.
Pat will be remembered for her smile, her nurturing and hospitality, making others feel welcome, her ability to put others before herself, and her strength of character.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, her sister-in-law, brothers-in-law, and her first husband.
