Nancy Jane “Janey” Thomas was born on July 4, 1951, in Bowie, Texas. She passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. Memorial services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Brooks Chapel with Marion Marrs officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, January 2, 2026, at Brooks Chapel.
Janey graduated from Snyder High School, where she played tennis and was first chair clarinet. She married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, John Sterling Thomas, in Snyder, Texas, on August 15, 1970.
Janey loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She and John raised their two sons in Snyder, Texas, where the family enjoyed caring for various animals, including dogs, goats, cows, and more. They spent many vacations at Brownwood Lake, the Texas coast, and in Colorado, fishing and playing games together. Janey always had a lap dog and dearly loved her dogs, especially Coco.
An avid reader, Janey loved the Lord and reading the Bible. She collected dolls and monkeys and enjoyed playing games with her husband and family—always dominating at Monopoly. Janey also cherished vacations to Maui and Mexico with her husband, son, and grandchildren. In retirement, she and John traveled to different parts of the United States.
Janey volunteered as a Pink Lady in Snyder and at the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum in Canyon.
A devoted Baptist, Janey sang in the church choir with John, was a member of her Sunday School class at First Baptist Church of Canyon, and was also a member of First Baptist Church of Amarillo.
Janey had a great sense of humor, a radiant smile, and her distinctive raised eyebrow—especially when John was in trouble. Our "Pearl" will be deeply missed.
Janey left these words for her loved ones:
“No crying. Only joy. I am free and running in circles.”
Janey was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny Orms and Una Vay Orms.
She is survived by her loving husband, John; her sisters, Patsy (Ronnie) Glenn, Judy (John) Blake, and Gail (Keith) Rimer; her sons, Bryant (Rhonda) Thomas and Randall (Carmen) Thomas; her grandchildren, Leah, Keira, Aiden, Kateland, Jocelyn, Kennedy, and Kinsley; three great-grandchildren; her brothers-in-law, Glenn Thomas and Leslie (Debbie) Thomas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, National Panhandle Chapter, 715 S. Lamar St., Amarillo, TX 79106.
