Monita Benham

Monita Benham, 82, went to be with the Lord on December 20, 2015. Graveside services will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 23 at Dreamland Cemetery with Rev. Gene Jones, associate pastor of Second Half Ministries at the First Baptist Church, officiating. Monita Steen Benham was born January 8, 1933. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Canyon. She retired from Texas D.P.S. in 1993. Monita and her husband spent a few years traveling in their travel trailer before they settled down at their home south of Canyon, where they spent time enjoying gardening and yard work. She was preceded in death by her husband, L.H. "Speck" Benham; her parents, Charles and Beulah Steen; three sisters, Martha Myers, Charlotte Carthel, and Marie Carney; and three brothers, Morris "Butch" Steen, Buster Steen, and Louis Steen. She is survived by sister, Jo Carthel, of Lubbock; brother, Buddy Steen and wife, Donna, of Mansfield; three sisters-in-law, Linda Steen, of Roswell, New Mexico, Claudia Steen, of New Braunsfel, and Clydele Steen Shaw, of Sweetwater; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved very much; two very special friends, Gaye Wineinger, of Amarillo, and Cody Carpenter, of Austin, whom she considered part of her family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675 or to your favorite charity.
