The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, June 28, 2013 at Brooks Chapel. The family will be at 14411 Suzanna St., Amarillo, for those who wish to stop by. Mildred May Leavitt was born Mildred May Scott on February 17, 1920 to parents, Owen and Jewel Scott of Wynnwood, Oklahoma. She and her parents moved to Canyon in June of 1929 where they farmed near Happy, TX. It's there that she met the love of her life, Roy Leavitt. They married on August 3, 1940. Roy preceded her in death on July 30, 1985. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Owen William Scott of Beaumont, TX died on May 16, 2011. Roy and Mildred moved to Dalhart, TX in 1946 and resided there until 1968 when they moved back to Canyon. Mildred was loved by all who knew her. She loved the Lord and was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Canyon until her health prevented her from attending as much as she wished. A special part of her life was the Coffee Break Bible Class and the close knit women of that class. She would want to thank all those who were so faithful to visit her at home and in the hospital. The family wishes to thank the staffs of BSA Hospital, BSA Hospice, and Kindred Hospital for the love and care shown to Mildred. Also, sincere thanks to Dr. Salil Trehan for his wonderful compassionate care of Mrs. Leavitt. Survivors include a nephew, George White and wife, Linda, her care givers, of Amarillo; nephews, Loyd Leavitt and wife, Omega, of Happy, and David Leavitt and wife, Judy, of Tulia; great-nephews, Todd White and Troy White, of Amarillo; great-great nephew, Brandon White; sister-in-law, Odessa Leavitt, of Happy; and many more nieces and nephews, too numerous to mention. She is also survived by her dear friend, Arzella Kinsey, of Canyon, whom she considered the ""sister she never had"" as well as a dear cousin, Dorothy Bird, of Amarillo, and numerous friends from all over the United States. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the patients of Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice, in care of Don and Sybil Harrington Cancer Foundation, 1600 Wallace Blvd. Amarillo, TX 79106 or a favorite charity.
