Maurine Elizabeth Abbott

Maurine Abbott, 86, of Canyon, passed away on Monday, September 6, 2021. Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at Brooks Chapel with Jim Brown, pastor of Monterey Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Dreamland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at Brooks Chapel.

Maurine was born on September 26, 1934 in Montague County to Walter and Dora (York) Scruggs. She married Ben Abbott on February 14, 1952 in Seymour, and they were married for 64 years before he preceded her in death on November 15, 2016. She was a farmer's wife for many years and later worked in the cafeteria at Canyon Jr. High School until her retirement.

Maurine and Ben loved square dancing and listening to the Tiny Lynn Band at the Country Barn. She was a former member of Canyon Hills Church of Christ.

Maurine is also preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Timothy Lynn Abbott and Mark Neal Abbott, and two great grandsons, Kyler Scott Garrett and Kaide Michael Garrett.

Survivors include her son, David Abbott and wife, Linda of Amarillo; her daughter, Brenda Birkenfeld of Canyon; four grandchildren, Travis Michael Abbott and wife, Suzy, Hylie Garrett and husband, Travis, Dustin Birkenfeld, and Kinsey Birkenfeld and Rocky Miller; four great-granddaughters; one step great-granddaughter; and one step great-grandson.
