Matta Rose "Mickey" Williams, 95, of Amarillo, formerly of Kerrville, passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2021.
Private family graveside services will be held in Rocky, Oklahoma.
Matta was born April 27, 1926 in Poteau, Oklahoma to Tolbert and Mary Palmer Coggins. She graduated from Poteau High School and then moved to Long Beach, California and worked as a secretary. While in California, she met her husband, Kenneth Williams, through her roommate and best friend, Billy. Kenneth was Billy's older brother who was returning from World War II. Matta and Kenneth were married on an ABC Radio Show, "Bride & Groom" and received an all-inclusive honeymoon to Las Vegas in October 1946. They moved to the Texas Panhandle in 1956 and lived in Friona and Stratford, while raising their three children. In 1976, they moved to Cordell, Oklahoma to run a Sears store. Once retired, they enjoyed traveling around the US together in their motorhome before finally settling in Kerrville.
Matta was an avid game player. She especially loved playing Skip-Bo. She enjoyed cooking, traveling, and spending time with her family.
Matta was a strong and faithful Christian, the kind of person that you would call when you needed prayer.
She was a member of WMU, Eastern Star, her church choir, and the Sunrise Baptist Church of Kerrville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kenneth, and eight of her nine siblings.
Survivors include her two sons, Ronnie Williams and wife Marian, and David Williams and wife Jennifer; daughter, Terri Wilson, and late husband Eddie; two grandsons, Joe Dan Wilson and Kade Williams; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Williams and Kristen McKinney and husband Andrew; great granddaughter, Kenzie McKinney; and a brother, Bill Coggins.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Salvation Army, www.salvationarmytexas.org.
