Mary Richey

December 31, 1969 — April 13, 2012

Mary E. Jeffress Richey was born on February 29, 1920 in Amarillo to James Edward and Martha Lou Eva Jeffress. She married Joe W. Richey, who preceded her in death in 1994. She lived in Amarillo and on a ranch near Claude. Mary was known to be a great cook with fond memories of sweet tea and chocolate cake. She fed many farm hands who she considered family. Mary was a quiet role model for many throughout her years demonstrating a hard work ethic and making everyone she met feel special. She just celebrated her "twenty third" leap year birthday with family and friends. Mary was the most caring and loving mother, grandmother, and friend. She was never known to complain or ever say an unkind word about anyone. She was also preceded in death by her brother, James Jeffress in 1990. She was a member of University Church of Christ in Canyon, Ladies Bible Class, Hilltoppers, Fairview Community near Claude, and Busy Bees Club at Fairview. Survivors include five children, Pat Rivers, of Amarillo, Bill Richey and wife, Janice, of Lake Kiowa, David Richey and best friend, Sharon Greenway, of Amarillo, Mary Lou Lyons and husband, Paul, of Canyon, and Joyce Wright and husband, Rick, of Dimmit; a brother, Charles Jeffress and wife, Betty of Topeka, Kansas; four sisters-in-law, Madeline Webb of Perryton, Lucille Hill, Cherry Veal, and Becky Barnard and husband, Charles, all of Norman, OK; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be to the University Church of Christ in Canyon, 3400 Conner Dr. Canyon, TX 79015, or to Jan Werner Adult Day Care, 3108 S. Fillmore, Amarillo, TX 79110.
