Mary Mayes

Mary Frances Mayes, 88, of Happy passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2018.  Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at the First Baptist Church of Happy with Dr. Richard Shaw, pastor, officiating.  Burial will follow in Happy Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, August 10, 2018 at Happy's Memorial Chapel. Mary was born on February 13, 1930 in Rule, Texas to William and Minervia Grimes Cox.  She graduated from Olney High School in 1947 and married Jerral Mayes in New Castle on June 7, 1949.  He preceded her in death in 2003.  Mary was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed sewing and crocheting.  She was fondly known as 'basketball Mom' to many and was a member of First Baptist Church of Happy. Mary was also preceded in death by her parents and ten siblings.  Survivors include two daughters, Glinda Dempsey and husband Joe Bill, of Happy, and Linda Swanson and husband Paul, of Tulia; one son, Jerral Mayes and wife Kathy, of Happy; seven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be made to the Happy Cemetery Association, PO Box 343, Happy, Texas 79042 or a favorite charity.
