Mary Lewis

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 22, from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Brooks Chapel. Graveside services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 2 at Madisonville City Cemetery, Madisonville, TX. Mary was born on December 2, 1926, in Beaumont to Snowden and Eva Rix Nichols. She had a Master's degree in Library Science and worked as an elementary school librarian. On December 30, 1947, she married H. Davis Lewis in Beaumont. She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Retired Teachers, Canyon Study Club, and the Lancaster Garden Club. Mary enjoyed reading, Bible study and gardening. She loved feeding and caring for her family. She was an avid Aggie and Cowboy football fan. She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, (infant) Frank Nesbit Nichols and Dr. W.S. Nichols, Jr. Survivors include her three sons, Tim Lewis and wife, Dinah of Canyon, Mark Lewis and wife, Tacy of Buena Vista, CO, Brian Lewis and wife, Cindy of Canyon; daughter, Sandra Dixon and husband, Bill of Ada, OK; and six grandchildren, Lana Ziegler and husband, Billy, of Houston, Sara and Mary Dixon, of Ada, OK, Julianna, Evangeline, and Stedman Lewis, of Buena Vista, CO. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Canyon Cares, 1719 5th Ave, Canyon, TX 79015; High Plains Food Bank, 815 Ross St., Amarillo, TX 79102; or Baptist Community Services, 701 Park Place, Amarillo, TX 79101.
