Mary A. Winters, 91, of Canyon, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2026. Memorial services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, April 20, 2026 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon with Shane Nease, pastor of Living Water Christian Fellowship, officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 19, 2026 at Brooks Chapel. Private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors.
Mary was born on December 26, 1934 in Randall County to Leonard and Suzie (Crudgington) Owens. She graduated from West Texas High School in 1952 and attended West Texas State College. She married Allen L. Winters on July 16, 1955 in the First Presbyterian Church of Canyon where they remained faithful members for many years.
Growing up, Mary loved to ride horses and her love of horses continued throughout her life. She also enjoyed watching and feeding the birds in her yard, making sure they always had enough food. She was a wonderful homemaker and an amazing cook, specializing in feeding large groups of young people at her church through the years, but Mary’s greatest passion in life was her grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She belonged to the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and was a long-time member of the University Study Club.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Allen, three brothers, and her sister.
Survivors include her son, David Winters and wife, Melanie of Canyon; three grandchildren, Mason Winters and wife, Jenna, Matt Winters and wife, Christina, and Sarah Minier and husband, Dawson; and six great grandchildren, Jaxson and Preslee Winters, Kinsley, Nolan, and Robert Winters, and Mallory Minier.
Because of their compassion and loving care of Mary, the family would like to suggest memorials be made to BSA Hospice of the Southwest, 5211 SW 9th Avenue, Suite 100, Amarillo, TX 79106.
